Hi Everyone,
I've been invitied to install Windows Live Mail Desktop by e-mail. As sure as anything, I have downloaded and installed the Beta software and start using it.
I run into a problem when opening the application. I am given the error: "Starting Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta for the first time requires an online connection. Please connect to the Internet and then try again. Contact Microsoft support for further assistance. (0x80048883)"
I couldn't understand why that came up - I've always been on the internet and "Working Online" when receiving the error. Pressing OK leads onto the next error: "Windows Live Mail Beta could not be started because msmail.dll could not be initialized. Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta may not be installed correctly."
Having taken the hint, I have uninstalled and re-installed WLMDB a couple of times, and have restarted inbetween each. No luck with that.
Does anyone else have the same issue? Thanks. - Andrew

Windows Live Mail Desktop Installation
I had the same problem. I don’t know what caused the problem exactly but I tried opening WLMB strait after I get the error message and it worked fine. I think it has something to do with the first time you run WLMB.

The same problem also happened to me. Make sure that your firewall allows WLMD to access the internet.
Hi Again,
Thanks for the support. I did manage to open WLMDB a little while after sending the post. Instead of opening WLMDB from the desktop shortcut, I opened the application throught Program Files >> Windows Live Mail Desktop folder. Voila! Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta opened up just fine.
Perhaps opening WLMDB for the first time from the desktop will give you problems, but having opened and used for the first time, I am now able to use WLMDB from the desktop shortcut. Strange huh?
Thanks again - hope this helps anyone else. - Andrew

Probably, but...
it is rather difficult to diagnose since the information you provide is pitiful.
